GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited wins Safety Innovation Award

Bhubaneswar, Sep 7, 2017: Adding yet another feather in its cap, GMR Kamalanga Energy Limited (GKEL) has bagged the prestigious ‘Safety Innovation Award-2017’ from The Institution of Engineers (India) for innovation and excellence in implementation of safety norms at the power plant.

The award was conferred on GKEL at the Safety Convention 2017 organised by The Institution of Engineers (India), Delhi State Centre at New Delhi on September 4, 2017. Mr. Arabinda Pani, Head–O&M and Mr. Susanta Sahoo, Head–EHS received the award on behalf of the company from Mr. Manish Sisodia, Deputy CM, Govt. of National Capital Territory of Delhi in the presence of Dr. Mangu Singh, MD, Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Ltd and Lt. General J S Ahluwalia, Chairman (Safety & Quality Forum) of IEI and Mr. Devendra Gill, Chairman – IEI, Delhi State Centre.

This coveted award has been conferred upon GKEL after a through scrutiny of works of different safety norms implemented in the power plant. GKEL highlighted Lockout & Tagout safety system and indigenously developed HT panel locking system, which helped to avoid accidents in the plant. The jury members asked many questions on various safety and environment measures implemented at GKEL before declaring the winner.

Congratulating all employees for their immense contribution to win this award, Shri Ramesh R Pai, Chief Operating Officer said, “This has been possible due to the relentless contribution of each employee of the company in their respective fields by adhering to the safety and other norms,” he said.

“This award is an endorsement of the hard work and Safety, Health & Environment culture inculcated in each employee of GKEL. Our EHS Department is doing wonderful job in this regard,” he added.

IEI has been organising Safety Innovation Award every year on innovative safety systems developed and implemented in all sectors of industries like construction, energy, engineering, cement, food processing, oil & gas, Steel & power .

GKEL, which operates 1050 MW thermal power plant at Kamalanga in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district, has been organising series of safety campaigns and trainings regularly to ensue zero incidents at the plant. The EHS department is also awarding smart workers every month, those play active role in avoiding incidents.
