FANI was one of rarest of rare summer cyclone says Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik; 45,000 volunteers involved in evacuation process

Bhubaneswar: FANI was one of the rarest of the rare summer cyclone- the 1st one in 43 years to hit Odisha and one of the 3 to hit the last 150 years says CM Naveen Patnaik. Cyclone Fani was a rare phenomenon during summer so predicting its course was a daunting task and no weather agencies were able to ascertain its actual path; It has destroyed electricity, telecommunication and drinking water infrastructure says Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik.

CM Naveen Patnaik says A record of 1.2 million people were evacuated in 24 hours, 3.2 lakh from Ganjam, 1.3 lakh from Puri & almost 7,000 kitchens catering to 9,000 shelters were made functional overnight. This mammoth exercise involved more than 45,000 volunteers.
