Bhubaneswar: Every family must come and explore the monuments of the Old Town area through Ekamra Walks. Families should come with kids and let the knowledge on the wealth of our rich heritage enrich their young minds. This nice platform should be used to make the children aware about the importance of our monuments and feel proud. Retired banker Kishore Chandra Bohidar spoke these lines after spending his Sunday morning with wife Pramila Bohidar, who retired recently as a reader in Botany.
Bohidar, also added that though for last one year he was planning to join the walk, this time only he could find and manage his time with wife. “We were delighted to see the beautiful Odissi recital by the students of Padma Shri Ileana Citaristi at her institute Art Vision on the western bank of Bindusagar.
His wife has taught Botany in four colleges namely GM College, Berhampur, Government College, Rourkela, Government College, Sundargarh and Rajendra College, Balangir during her career. She also appreciated the initiative and was happy to know that the second one Monks, Caves and Kings have already started at Udayagiri and Khandagiri.
Sougata Sinha Roy, his wife Subhanwita Sinha Roy and son Shreyan Sinha Roy were delighted to know about so many interesting stories on the various temples dating back to 7th Century AD and 15th Century AD.
“We are staying here in the city for last three and half years, but today we got the time to come and join the Ekamra Walks. This is indeed a wonderful initiative and every family with kids must come and explore the heritage sites,’’ said Sougata.
He also added that the beautiful event not only makes the walkers aware about the unique temple building architecture of Kalingan style, but also on the history of the place, traditional values and rituals.
Zehra Toorabally, a Japanese language expert, interpreter and educator, who visited the heritage walk at the Twin Hills of Udayagiri and Khandagiri yesterday, also joined the walk at Old Town today and was very happy to see the Odissi dance recital at Art Vision. “Within two days I have discovered so much about city’s culture and I am really fortunate to come here on this trip,’’ the Gujarat-born language expert added.
Smruti Ranjan Sahoo, a manager with Tata Steel at Kalinganagar Plant in Jajpur district, said “I have heard about Ekamra Walks from several friends and media and was planning to join. Today I am really overwhelmed to discover so much about our rich temple architecture, traditions. I was chilling at Bhubaneswar during a break, but joining Ekamra Walks made my day more meaningful and enriching.’’
