Eviction drive near Kalinga Stadium for World Cup hockey, at Ainginia for Vice-Prez’s visit

Bhubaneswar: As per the Central Enforcement Monitoring Committee (CEMC) eviction programme, the enforcement team consisting officer and staff of Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA), Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) and Commissionerate Police cleared unauthorised encroachments in and around of the boundary wall of Kalinga Stadium for Odisha Men’s Hockey World Cup’ 2018 under Nayapalli police station.

The eviction started at around 10.30 am and continued till 2 pm. The requisition for this eviction drive was given byDirector, Sports and Youth Services, Government. of Odisha on August 19.

During the drive six asbestos houses, seven cabins, two tin shed houses, 12 bamboo framed polythene covered shops and near about 120 feet bamboo fencing from Gulab Resorts to Kalinga Stadium Traffic Square were demolished.

Two excavators (one from BDA and one from BMC) were engaged during eviction drive. Among others, Enforcement Officer-II, BDA, Pramod Kumar Patro, Liaison Officer, BDA, Subhransu Sekhar Mohanty, Inspector-in-Charge Nayapalli Police Station Umakanta Pradhan were present.

One platoon of gents APR force and one section of lady police force were present at site to maintain law and order during the demolition drive. Four enforcement squads from BDA and BMC participated in the drive.

SECOND EVICTION: FIR FILED

In another eviction programme was carried out by BDA and BMC with the help of Khandagiri police carried out a drive against encroachment along Aiginia to AIIMS Road on the eve of visit by Vice-President of India Venkaiah Naidu. The Vice-President will address the convocation at AIIMS, Bhubaneswar.

During the drive six temporary shops shelling non-vegetarian food were evicted. However, due to heavy protest by the local people along with the councillor of Ward No. 66 the eviction programme was stopped at about 12.30 pm. In this regard an FIR was also lodged by BMC with the Khandagiri police for necessary action.
