Energy Maharatna ONGC fuels noteworthy Swachhta projects during the Pakhwada

New Delhi: Energy major Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) is implementing a number of significant cleanliness-related projects during the ongoing Swachhta Pakhwada [1-15 July 2019]. These projects, some of those related to Clean Water, are being carried out across India in the various work locations of ONGC.

To mark the beginning of the Swachhta Pakhwada, ONGC Director (HR) Dr. Alka Mittal flagged-off Clean Himalaya Expedition. Under this Expedition, ONGC collaborates with the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) to clean mountains in the following three regions: –

1. Kedarnath in UK Himalaya

2. Khaliya Top-Munsiyari in UK Himalaya

3. Dharamshala –Mcleodganj in Himachal Himalaya

ONGC Ahmedabad is deepening 15 lakes in Gandhinagar District as part of watershed management for increasing the ground water level and making available water for the villages. This is part of the Sujalam Sufalam program launched by Government of Gujarat. All the lakes have been taken up and will be completed during the Swachhta Pakhwada. Deepening of two lakes have been completed.

ONGC Rajahmundry (Andhra Pradesh) launched a collaborative project for cleaning, sledge removing and removal of aquatic weeds from the Godavari river at Kotilingala Ghat on 3 July 2019. This project has been launched by ONGC in collaboration with the local administration and will be completed in a week’s time. The occasion of launching the event was graced by MLA Mrs. Adi Bhavani Reddy, Municipal Commissioner, Rajahmundry Mr Sumit Kumar, IAS and a large public. Launch of CSR project for installation of 60 Solar Lights in Ransai Village, Uran block, Raigad District of Maharashtra.

 

A tree plantation drive in ONGC Assam was carried out on 2 July, where the Assam Chief Minister Mr. Sarbananda Sonowal participated. ONGC inaugurated Solar Electrification of 100 households in Narayanpur Rail Basti village in its Cachar project. ONGC inaugurated a Digital Conference hall, drinking water facility and toilets which were built under CSR in the junior college Nakachari village, near ONGC Jorhat project.

 

ONGC organized CSR Live Week at the World Trade Centre, Mumbai on 4 July. The CSR Good Book [a compendium for social efforts and initiatives concerning the environment, community development, etc] was released. An exhibition is being held at the same venue where ONGC has put up a corporate display on Swachhta initiatives undertaken. Around 275 persons from different sectors viz. NGO, Private, Government, working in Healthcare, Education, Environment, Animal Welfare, Women Empowerment etc. visited the stall and appreciated the CSR activities of ONGC. Also, several queries of these agencies related to CSR were addressed during the interactive session with them.

 

 

ONGC inaugurated a Project for Construction of toilet units in five schools at Basti district of Uttar Pradesh on 6 July through Member of Parliament Mr. Harish Dwivedi. The project is being implemented by the Bhartiya Co-operative Gramin Vikas Evam Nirman Ltd. The project will emphasize on development of sanitation facilities for school children’s in rural area of Basti District and work towards the fulfilment of ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ objectives for reduction or elimination of open defecation through the construction of individual, cluster and community toilets.

 

 

The ONGC Clean Himalaya Team, Kedarnath organized the clean Himalaya awareness program about adventure activities/search and rescue management lecture. Awareness generation was also conducted on medical, personal hygiene and sanitation. Over 250 people attended the awareness program which included workers, porters and also locals who reside Kedarnath Temple Complex. They collected 20 bags garbage. The main cleaning points in Kedarnath were Gaurikund, Jangle Chati, Ramwada, Bhimbali, Linchili, Ghodapadaw and Kedarnath.

 

Under Swachhta Pakhwada, ONGC inaugurated the project for installation of 99 hand pumps on 6-7 July 2019 at Shravasti (Uttar Pradesh) through Member of Parliament Mr. Dadan Mishra. The identified locations for these hand pumps are at Block- Hariharpur Rani, Block- Ikauana, and Block-Jamunaha. The project is being implemented by the Sankalp Foundation.

 

Local residents of these surrounding areas will be benefitted. To ensure the sustainability, after installation of hand pumps, the further maintenance will be taken care by the agency and the gram panchayat.

 

ONGC has lined up more Cleanliness-related projects in the second leg of the Swachhta Pakhwada. The Energy major is committed to the Swachhta movement and will continue to fuel such nationally-important projects in the times to come.
