Bhubaneswar: ALIBHA Federation formed by women panchayat functionaries of Balianta & Bolagarh Block interacted with Media at Bhubaneswar . This workshop was organised by People’s Cultural Centre (PECUC)in collaboration with The Hunger Project .The participants of this workshop were from the Women representatives of Balianta and Bolgarh Block of Khordha District , print and electronic media houses .The meeting was presided by Ms Anuradha Mohanty ,Executive Director, PECUC She gave emphasis on participation of women in the governance process is need of the hour. Also She informed that PECUC is working with Elected women panchayat functionaries of 23 Panchayat and 223 women representatives of Balianta and Bologarh. She also informed that various trainings provided to the EWRs on finance management of Panchayat, Leadership building ,federation building and Government schemes &programmes etc. to build their capacity & leadership. She informed that EWRs have solved 11 cases of violence against women, stopped 5 child marriage cases, linked people with various schemes of Govt & also have planted more than 1000 trees in their area. Mrs. Rashmita Patra, President of AlIbha EWR federation of Blianta Block and Sarapanch of Benupur, said she is continuously trying to make her panchayat alcohol free & violence free . Ms Babita Sahoo, Alibha-EWR federation President & Sarapanch ,Bolgarh, discussed about the work of Alibha federation in stopping violence against women and also child marriage. . Dr Meenakshi Panda, Director ,PECUC shared her thoughts & said that there is need of a supportive environment & encouragement to women Panchayat functionaries so that they can also perform.
The women representative also shared their success stories in the Workshop. The Naib Sarpanch Satyabhamapur ,MS sabitri sahu shared that she could solved a domestic violence case, Laxmipriya Sahoo ward member of Bhainchua stopped a child marriage case , Bijayani Patra Ward member of Balianta solved a problem in her school as well as constructed a tube well in her area, Ward member of Puran Panchayat Swapna Bhoi send all the children of her ward to school and she also provided support to a poor cancer patient. The ward member of Puran panchayat , Shantilata Pradhan provided help and support to a Person with Disabilities (PWD). The ward member of Bhingarpur Gitanjali Das cited the problem of a poor people in getting Government sanctioned house. The ward member of Bolgarh Anjana Swain, who won in the unreserved seat told about the problem of people who are not included in any scheme of Government and she is trying hard to link them to get benefit. The Ward Member Puspalata Paikray discussed about the solving of drinking water problem in her area. There are lots of success stories & challenges like this they shared . Media people also asked various queries and questions which was answered by the women panchayat functionaries. Mr Jyoti Shankar Mohanty, Programme Manger ,PECUC Ms. Upama Mohanty and Bamadeva Jena of PECUC facilitated the workshop.`
