In demanding justice of Kunduli Gang Rape: Odisha Congress Stages Protest Near Raj Bhavan

Report by Nishapati Nayak, Bhubaneswar: The opposition Congress on Thursday began its protest near Raj Bhavan here demanding justice for the Kunduli gang rape victim and requesting Governor of the state S.C.Jamir to intervene in the matter.

Former Nabarangpur MP and Congress’ ST Cell chief Pradeep Majhi and Koraput MLA and party’s SC Cell President Krushna Sagaria led the protest.

Hundreds of Congress workers joined the protest, called by the SC Cell and ST Cell of the party, and submitted a memorandum with five points of charter of demands to the Governor. Their demands include to provide treatment to the gang rape victim in a reputed private run hospital in the State capital, set a judicial probe, make her medical report public, provide compensation of Rs 50 lakh to the victim and take stringent action against the culprits.

Earlier, the party had observed bandh in Koraput district and held a protest march from the Musaguda village, the native village of gang rape survivor, to the DIG office in the district headquarter in a bid to put pressure the State government to arrest all the accused involved in the gang rape case at the earliest.

A class IX class student of Sorisapadar village under Potangi police limits in Koraput district was allegedly gang raped by four security personnel while she was returning from the Kunduli Haat (market) on October 10 that created a huge public outcry in the state.
