Rajgangpur: Dalmia OCL Eye Centrehas completed 5 years of serving underprivileged sections of the society in Sundargarh district of Odisha. The eye hospital was jointly instituted by L V Prasad Eye Institute andDalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited(earlier OCL India Limited)at Rajgangpur in 2015, with the vision of making Sundargarh district blind free. The institute was inaugurated by Former President, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. The institute achieved another milestone during this year with total number of patients treated here going past the 1 lakh mark.
On this momentous occasion Shri Sunil Gupta, Regional Manufacturing Head, East, Dalmia Cement (Bharat) Limited was the guest of honour. Dr. Tara Prasad Das, Vice Chairman, LVPEI, was also present on the occasion.
Founded with the noble vision of uplifting the lives of visually challenged people with specialist eye care services and advanced ophthalmic technologies, the eye centre has put relentless efforts in bridging the patient doctor gap, especially considering the scarcity of ophthalmologists in the remote areas. Since its inception till this year, Dalmia OCL Eye Centre has performed 6,577 surgeries, out of which 4,538 have been operated free of charge. The community screening program has covered 722 villages in Sundargarh district, including all the children of Govt. Schools.
Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Sunil Kumar Gupta, Regional Manufacturing Head (East), DCBL, said, “We are delighted to complete 5 years of serving the people of Sundargarh. Through our centre, we have treated and supported over 1,00,000 patients in last five years. With the vision of making the district blind free, we are working towards expanding our various initiatives and door-to-door services so that it reaches far-off areas of the district. Throughout this five year journey, we have received tremendous support from the local communities and multiple stakeholders from time to time. Thanks to this concerted effort, we have made significant progress towards eradicating blindness in the district.”
Dr. Tara Prasad Das, Vice Chairman, LVPEI, said, “We are extremely happy on achieving the landmark of 5 years. Our goal is to provide high-quality, low-cost, self-sustaining permanent eye care infrastructure in distant areas of the country and this was possible only with the support of our partners, well-trained staff and excellent doctors. We will continue to deliver more efficient service to eliminate blindness in Sundargarh.”
From this year onwards, the LVPEI run eye centre will also be benefited by the eye care provider’s newest initiative ‘Pashyantu’ which is advance eye care on wheels. It would reach Dalmia OCL Eye Centre, Rajgangpur at least twice a month and take care of retinal conditions including vein occlusion, diseases in children and follow up care of the patients operated at Bhubaneswar LVPEI. This would substantially reduce the travel and all indirect cost incurred by patients for follow up care and check-ups.
