CJI office comes under RTI Act, says Supreme Court

New Delhi: Office of Chief Justice of India (CJI) comes under the purview of Right to Information (RTI) Act, says Supreme Court.

CJI’s office is a public authority under the ambit of #RTIAct, rules a SC constitution bench of CJI Ranjan Gogoi and Justices N V Ramana, D Y Chandrachud, Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna.Reading out the judgment, Justice Sanjiv Khanna said judicial independence and accountability go hand in hand.

Constitution Bench upheld the the 2010 judgment of Delhi High Court which had held that RTI Act was applicable to CJI.
