Central University of Orissa organises Annual Cultural Day Pragamme

Report by Nishapati Nayak, Koraput: Central University of Orissa organized the Annual Cultural Day Function on the occasion of centenary celebration of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at its permanent campus, Sunabeda today. Prof. S. K. Palita, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor I/c. of the University and Prof. Krushna Chandra Biswal, Dean and Principal, Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital, Koraput inaugurated the programme as the Chief Guest and Guest of Honour respectively. Dr. Ramendra Kumar Parhi, Dean Student Welfare I/c. of the University delivered the welcome address. Prof. Palita in his address stressed on the development of the ability of the students for the excellence to get success.

Students need to make proper use of the resources and opportunity they are getting in life Prof. Palita advised. He motivated them to dedicate themselves for the quest of excellence in life and nation buildings. In his address he informed the auspicious gathering about the development and achievement of the University. First time in the history, the University has been accredited by the NAAC and got B+ grade. CUO also was ranked in 150-200 band in NIRF ranking among 600+ Universities of the country. First time the Students Council was formed and Annual Sports organised. Prof. Palita stressed on the need for connecting to the people of the region and expressed the desire for research and academic must have an orientation for socio-economic development of the region.

He highlighted the future plans of the University. He said “the Central Government has already sanctioned the amount for infrastructure development including four storied academic building, administrative building and staff quarters. The other hostels will also be constructed in future. He congratulates the students, faculty and staff of the University for organising a successful cultural day programme. Prof. Palita & Prof. Biswal distributed certificates and prizes to all the winners of the competition organised on the occasion of Annual Sports Day.

Prof. Biswal highlighted some of the glimpse of the rich and diversity culture of the Koraput region. He thanked the University community for inviting him as a Guest of Honour to the programme and congratulated for organising such a beautiful function on the occasion of centenary celebration of 150th birth anniversary of Father of the Nation. He said “these two leading educational institutions one in higher education and other in health education will serve the educational and health care need of the people of the Koraput region”.

Dr. Parhi in his welcome address gave a warm welcome to the audience and advised the students to develop their talents along with education. Mr. K. Kosla Rao, Finance Officer I/c. of the University delivered the vote of thanks and hailed the development and achievement made by the University.

Students of all 14 departments of the University performed classical dance, songs and drama on this occasion. The cultural programme was organised by Mr. Sourav Gupta, Assistant Professor, Department of Journalism and Mass Communication. Dignitaries of the region namely Shri Gadadhar Parida, Ex-Collector; Shri Manoj Kumar, GM NAD; Dr. G. Madhu, Director ICAR-IISWC, Sunabeda; Dr. Jagabandhu Samal, COATS, Dr. Sudhansu Shekhar Sahu, Scientist F & Director I/c, Vector Control Research Centre, Koraput were present on this occasion. Students, faculty and staff were also present at large.
