Central University of Odisha organises workshop on Fine Tuning Research Planning

Koraput: The Central University of Odisha organized a workshop on “Fine Tuning Research Planning” on 07 March 2020 at its campus Sunabeda. Prof. I. Ramabrahmam, Vice-Chancellor of the University inaugurated the workshop and delivered inaugural address. Eminent resource person Mr. Vishal Gupta, Customer Consultant, South Asia, Elsevier, a world-leading provider of information solutions to enhance the performance of science, health and technology conducted the workshop. Prof. P. Durga Prasad, Visiting professor of Sociology; Prof. Sharat Kumar Palita, Dean, School of Biodiversity and Conservation of Natural Resources and Chairman of the Workshop present on the dais.

The VC highlighted the importance of planning in research work in any University. He said “the quality of research work directly augments and enhances the quality of teaching and learning in the any higher educational institution which can benefit the students, the society and the country. A research plan allows finding new knowledge and dig deeper to discover things and learn about new happenings”. He assured the workshop will enhance the research capabilities of the scholars and faculty members of the University to publish many numbers of articles in the International publication by which the author along with University will be visible around the globe.

Mr. Gupta, the resource person highlighted different tools and techniques and their applications in research planning. He said” research starts with an idea. You can read about it whether the idea is new. It can be available in a click on your computer by using Scopus”. Scopus is the largest abstract and citation database of peer-reviewed literature: scientific journals, books and conference proceedings. Delivering a comprehensive overview of the world’s research output in the fields of science, technology, medicine, social sciences, and arts and humanities, Scopus features smart tools to track, analyze and visualize research. It may be pointed out that Scopus played a significant role in the institutions ranking system. Mr. Gupta highlighted all the tools and techniques available in the Scopus for research publication. He said that the Scopus offers free features to non-subscribed users, and is available through Scopus Preview. Researchers may use Scopus to assist with their research, such as searching authors, and learning more about Scopus content coverage and source metrics. He also highlighted the importance of Mendeley software for research works and demonstrated its use.

Prof. Palita explained the importance of research in different subject areas in higher educational institutions and use of different research softwares modern methods particularly Scopus and Mendeley. He said “many institutions are judged by its quality of research. We must develop our standard of research and know different tools and methods used to publish in international publications”. Prof. Prasad gave importance to quality research. He said “quality of research will be looked by many suspicious eyes. So, a researcher must enhance the knowledge and standard for good research”. Shir Bijayananda Pradhan, Asst. Librarian delivered the welcome address and highlighted the aims and objectives of the workshop.

Dr. Jayanta Kumar Nayak, extended the Vote of thanks. Visiting Professors, all faculty and research scholars of the University participated in the workshop. The workshop ended with question answer session. Students were actively participated and said they are benefited by the deliberation in the workshop.
