Central University of Odisha Celebrates World Environment Day

Koraput: The Central University of Odisha under the auspices of Vice-Chancellor Prof. I. Ramabrahmam, celebrated Biodiversity on the occasion of World Environment Day at its campus, Sunabeda today. On this occasion different varieties of saplings have been planted in the University campus. DIG of Police, South Western Region of Odisha Shri Shefeen Ahamed K., IPS was the Chief Guest. Shri Madhusudan Mishra, District Collector and Magistrate, Korpaut; Er. Debashis Deb, Executive Director, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited, Sunabeda; Smt. Laxmi Ramabrhmam, the first Lady of the University were present as the distinguished Guests of Honour. They greeted the University community for celebrating Biodiversity. Prof. I Ramabrahmam, Vice-Chancellor of the University welcomed all the dignitaries and highlighted the importance of celebrating World Environment Day. He invited all the dignitaries to plant the saplings at the venue.
Biodiversity is the foundation that supports all life systems on land and water. It affects every aspect of human health, providing clean air and water, nutritious foods, scientific understanding and medicine sources, natural disease resistance, and climate change mitigation. The Vice Chancellor advised to plant trees and save our lives in his message.
Shri Shefeen Ahamad K. DIGP interacted with all the teaching and non-teaching staff of the University and appreciated the human diversity that exists in the University campus. He expressed his happiness on the wonderful works carried out by the University towards the promotion of biodiversity, while he planted a tree.
Engineer Debashis Deb, the Executive Director of HAL greeted the Vice-Chancellor for his efforts in shaping the University campus with green trees by planting several species of trees. He planted an Arjun tree on this occasion.
The district Collector and Magistrate, Shri Madhusudan Mishra appreciated the initiative taken by the University on conservation of biodiversity in the region. He extended his all-round support towards development of the University.
Dr. Kakoli Banerjee, Asst. Professor of the University spoke on the significance of the World Environment Day with regard to Biodiversity. She highlighted the different projects carried out by the University in the field biodiversity of Odisha. Dr. Rudrani Mohanty, Faculty, Dept. of Odia also spoke on the importance of the Day.
Prof. Asit Kumar Das, Registrar of the University extended a vote of thanks. Dr. Kapila Khemundu, Asst. Professor of Sociology gave the introductory remarks and coordinated the programme.
