Central University of Odisha celebrates International Women’s Day-2018.

Report by Nishapati Nayak, Koraput: International Women’s Day-2018 was celebrated at the Central University of Orissa, Koraput today at its permanent campus, Sunabeda by the Internal Complaints Committee of the University. Prof. Sheela Prashad, Professor Centre for regional Studies, University of Hyderabad delivered a special lecture on “Women of the Millennium: Challenges and Opportunities” as Chief speaker. Prof. Sachidananda Mohanty, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, inaugurated the programme and delivered the inaugural address. as the Chief Guest. Prof. Mohanty said we need to create conscious rising regarding the gender equality.

Prof. Prashad in her special lecture talked about the history of women’s agitation for creating a personal space in today’s society and cited many issues related to day to day problems of the women such as security, career, gender in-equality and sex ration. She said “India has a long way to go. Every women’s Day is the time for introspection and reflection. We have to respect the rights that we are enjoying today as with rights comes responsibility. Today’s generation women should say my life my rule. Men and women should build the world with equal share”. She also talked about to learn from some of the leading countries in the world like Ice land for gender equality, New Zeland for small gape in wages sharing and Singapore for safer city for women.

Prof. Mohanty in his lecture cited the importance of consciousness raising and individual will to respect women. He said “Today Indian women every day breaking the glass ceiling and creating history. The Indian ideal is the ideal of Ardhanareshwar. We need one another to create a complete world. We have to think globally and act locally, we need to work over the Indian feminism”. He also talked about many women writers like Sarla Devi, Bidyut Prabha Devi and Prabhati Rai. He urged the students to work towards creating consciousness rising on gender equality.

 

On this occasion prizes were distributed the to winners of the essay competition in English, Odia and Hindi and Rongoli competition organize to celebrate the International Women’s Day.

Dr. Minati Sahoo, Presiding Officer Internal Complaints Committee delivered the welcome address. Dr. Sagarika Mishra, Lecture and member ICC gave vote of thanks. Sushree. Sampada, research scholar Department of Odia language and Literature compeered the programme. Students and faculty members of the University were present on this occasion.
