Bhubaneswar: CARE Hospitals, Bhubaneswar launched Odisha’s first comprehensive “Heart and Lung Transplant Program” on Friday 20th September 2019 at Bhubaneswar. This program was supported by world renowned Heart and Lung Transplant Surgeon Dr. KR Balakrishnan. Dr. Mahinder Singh Tripaty Medical Director, Mrs. Gurrit Kaur Sethi, Hospital Chief Operating Officer (HCOO), Care Hospitals Bhubaneswar and Dr. Raajiv Singhal, CEO CARE Hospitals, Managing Director Evercare group graced the occasion.
Dr. KR Balakrishnan is credited for having performed India’s first LVAD & HVAD pump implants. He has performed more than 306 heart transplants over a period of 9 years and 102 heart transplants including 29 pediatric heart transplants last year. This was the 3rd highest in the world. He has also performed over 52 LVAD & more than 30 Lung Transplants.
Under the supervision of Dr. K. R. Balakrishnan and Ms. Chitra, ‘Aishwarya Trust’ has performed over 1000 free congenital heart surgeries for under privileged children of which 100 are heart transplants.
