BJP wages wars against ruling BJD of Odisha, Shah said only BJP can take Odisha to a new height

Bhubaneswar: BJP had almost waged a war against the BJD and the congregation of the national leaders and the Prime Minister, flanked by thousands of party workers, was a show of strength. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, 13 BJP-ruled State Chief Ministers, 43 Union Ministers and 345 executive members attended the meeting in Bhubaneswar.
BJP national president Amit Shah on Saturday said his party would form the Government in Odisha in 2019. He maintained that people’s aspiration would then be fulfilled.

“Lack of development in Odisha is a matter of serious concern and only the BJP can take Odisha to a new height. The people of Odisha have the faith on the BJP,” asserted Shah at the inaugural day of the party’s two-day national executive meeting held here.

Shah hailed the BJP State leadership and grassroots level workers for achieving an impressive result in the recently concluded panchayat elections and called upon the party cadres not to be overconfident.

“Confidence is good, but overconfidence is not,” cautioned Shah, adding, “We have to go to the grassroots and booth levels to strengthen the party.”

He slammed the Naveen Patnaik Government saying the latter had failed to provide pure drinking water, toilets and electricity to the people even after ruling the State for 17 years. He also blasted Patnaik for the higher rate of poverty index in Odisha.

“In Odisha, till today, 14 per cent of the population is still deprived of pure drinking water, while 22 per cent does not have toilets. Further, 46 per cent population of Odisha is still below poverty line and 41 per cent is still awaiting electricity,” Shah said.
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh brushed it aside to be an issue, he stated that the BJD was trying to politicise it in the panchayat elections in Odisha. He, however, stated that the people of Odisha know what is what and reiterated that he was ready for talks to resolve the issue.
