BJP to hold demonstrations in front of all RI offices across Odisha over compensation to farmers

Bhubaneswar: The BJP on Monday said it would hold demonstrations in front of all Revenue Inspector (RI) offices across the State for a month from December 1 demanding identification of real affected farmers and distribution of compensation within a specified time period.

BJP State vice-president Sameer Mohanty told a Press conference that the decision was taken at a meeting of district presidents and senior leader held here for two days. He said BJP leaders would visit all agricultural fields where crops have been damaged due to scanty rainfall and pest attacks between November 22 and 30.

“Farmers are in a dire state now. Sale of fake pesticides has caused huge losses to farmers. Even, some peasants have committed suicide. The BJP demands real farmers get Government compensation. For this, we will take out stir to RI office level,” said Mohanty.

He alleged that ruling party leaders and workers, during drought and floods, had pocketed Government assistances by making fake lists of affected farmers with support of tehsil officials and RIs. He slammed the State Government for directing Sarpanches to submit assessment reports. “The State Government is trying to prepare a list on political considerations instead of making a list of real farmers,” he alleged.

Among others, State secretary Kalandi Samal and Krushak Morcha national vice-president Maheswar Sahoo, State president Shibaji Mohanty and executive member Sukant Panigrahi were present.
