Bhubaneswar: With the IMD warning of over 150 mm rainfall in the city, the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) has become ready with a multi-agency 24X7 control room at BMC comprising people from Water Resource Department, Public Works Department, Public Health Engineering Organisation and Drainage Division of BMC.
Though by evening 6.30 pm the city experienced 25 mm rainfall as per the data given by IMD, the control room is likely continue for another 24 hours as low pressure is still in force over the State as per the IMD prediction. It was still raining till the filing of the report.
Interestingly, after the unprecedented rainfall since August 13 the multi-agency control room inside BMC has started operation as per the weather report of IMD. This has also helped in the preparedness for the natural calamity at city-level. Through use of mobile technology and WhatsApp groups the civic body is coordinating with its officials and agencies concerned to provide a quick and reliable assistance at any time.
Meanwhile, today BMC pump has been deployed at Nilakantheswar Temple bylane and Fire Services pump has been deployed at Ratna Villa. Several pumps have been pre-positioned at: Gouri Garden, Gouri Nagar Lane, Gouri Sankar English Medium School, Garage Chhack canal side and Nuagoan Main Road.
Thirteen teams across 13 sub-zones were deployed to monitor the situation across the city in 67 wards. Team BMC’s 40 engineers on high alert to manage any kind of situation due to high rainfall.
