Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation is going to celebrate the Local Self Government Day with many welfare and citizen-centric projects

Bhubaneswar: Good news for citizens of the Temple City as the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation is going to celebrate the Local Self Government Day with many welfare and citizen-centric projects.

These plethora of inaugurations and foundation stone laying activities, to be organised for three days during the celebration of the LSGD would include new parks, community centres, crematorium, launching of Mahayatra vehicle to provide journey for the last rites of the dead, recreation centres and water bodies etc. Every year the largest city-based civic body of the State organised this event as the day falls on August 31.

A meeting regarding the organisation of this celebration in the premier urban local body of the State was held recently, chaired by Mayor Ananta Narayan Jena. Deputy Mayor K. Shanti, Chairpersons of all Standing Committees and senior officials of the Corporation were also present.

From the key projects to be included during the celebration, some are: Kalyan Mandap at Unit 6 area, one Day Centre each will be inaugurated in Ward No. 49 and Ward No. 15’s Rental Colony area. While a community centre will be inaugurated in Nayapalli Sabar Sahi, a park under Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) will be inaugurated in Dumduma area.

Apart from these above-mentioned projects, about 50 more will be given foundation stone during the LSG Day celebration. These will include a cardiac centre near Corporation Hospital in Old Town area, 18 parks in different wards. Likewise, foundation stone for a crematorium in Ward No. 49, community centre in Kapileswar Nayak Sahi and community centre in BDA Colony, Chandrasekharpur would be key projects.

For children of different age groups, there will be special reference in this year’s LSGD. BMC will provide rides for the kids in different parks so as to make the parks more child-friendly and to provide activity based centres. In Vani Vihar (Utkal University) campus BMC will come up with a children’s park investing Rs 31 lakh, for which foundation stone will be laid during the LSGD. Details about the park will be available next week, as per the Engineering Division of BMC.

During the water-logging situation in many locations i.e. ISKCON Temple, Acharya Vihar and Jaydev Vinar areas remained in focus for which NHAI was asked time and again to come with drainage solutions. However, BMC has come up with plans to take the first step by laying foundation stone for the drainage initiative to make the city more safe and commuter-friendly.
