Australia Ahead In The Game On Day-2

By Shrey Siddharth

Day 2 of the Brisbane test commenced with Tim Paine and Cameron Green well set. India were one bowler short as Saini sustained a groin strain yesterday. Natarajan, Siraj and Shardul had the ball swinging early on in the day. Cameron Green played a few delightful strokes. Here are the highlights of today’s play:-

Indian bowlers comeback
Tim Pain played a captain’s knock scoring 50 and Australia looked in a dominating position, but that’s where the tables turned. Shardul brought India back into the game dismissing Paine, caught by Rohit Sharma. Washington Sundar produced a magical delivery that zipped the other way despite being an off break stock delivery to get Green clean bowled at 47. The Indian attack ran through the Aussie tail end to end the Australian innings at 369, Labuschagne being the lead scorer with 108. Shardul, Natarajan and Sundar picked 3 wickets each and Siraj got one scalp.

Lyon’s King welcome
When he came out to bat, Nathan Lyon was given a hero’s welcome by the Brisbane crowd as he was playing his 100th test match. He played a few great strokes around the ground especially the hook short and the classic on drive that left everyone in awe including Lyon himself. He was out for 24 as he was bowled round the legs while sweeping Sundar.

Hitman’s show and early wickets
The Indian innings was on its way as the Shubman and Rohit took guard. After getting a boundary playing his trademark backfoot punch, Shubman Gill was caught at slips off Cummins who bowled his second ball. Rohit Sharma brought the counter attack against the Aussies and he looked very dangerous. But he didn’t last very long playing an unnecessary shot and falling to Lyon.

The final session was completely washed out due to rain. India finished with 62-2, Rahane and Pujara unbeaten at 2 and 8 respectively. Can India take lead tomorrow? Only time would say.
