Bhubaneswar: The 34th Monks, Caves and Kings was an exciting experience for the Commanding Officer of 120 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) Colonel Jacob Freeman and his kin as they joined the walkers along the heritage trail of the Twin Hills of Udayagiri and Khandagiri.
Colonel Jacob, who has taken the responsibilities of the 120 Infantry Battalion recently as the Commanding Officer, was very happy to express his feelings even though he had visited the site long ago with other guides.
“I have come here with other people as guides in the past, but never the experience was so rich, fulfilling and educative. I really appreciate the initiative of Ekamra Walks to popularise historical monuments to the travellers so that the world could notice the importance of Bhubaneswar as a city of monuments and temples with unique architecture and style,’’ said Colonel Jacob.
Colonel Jacob’s cousin sister Rini said “we came from Kerala for a vacation and never had an idea that the capital city is blessed with so many beautiful historical sites and monuments. In fact, after school many have forgotten the things learnt in the history books, but after today’s heritage walk the pages from the old history books were alive and I was really delighted to discover the beautiful caves, rock-cut architecture and the green surrounding. It was a wonderful experience.’’
She also added that the beautiful rock-cut caves of the Twin Hills Udayagiri and Khandagiri should be popularised through commercial propaganda to attract more tourists to the Jain heritage monument.
Bijo Alex Verghese, Rini’s husband said “I started the journey to Odisha from Bhubaneswar and the first experience on the Day 1 was wonderful and exclusive. The entire team and the interactive way to promote our heritage and history was interestingly done. I would definitely recommend the walk for my friends, who would be visiting Odisha in future.’’
