Aparajita Sarangi to formally join BJP On November 27

Bhubaneswar: Former IAS Officer Aparajita Sarangi to Join Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) On November 27 . Aparajita likely to be contest as MP candidate from Bhubaneswar.

Sarangi would join the saffron party in the presence of its national president Amit Shah, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and many other senior leaders.

Sarangi would visit the BJP State head office here on December 1. She would be given a grand welcome by BJP members in the city, sources said.

Though she is likely to fight the upcoming general elections, it is not yet known whether she would fight for a Lok Sabha or an Assembly seat in Odisha or Bihar.

Sarangi, a 1994 batch Odisha-cadre IAS officer, has served as commissioner of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) from 2006 to 2009. She had also become a popular face as the School & Mass Education Secretary in the state.

The former bureaucrat was on central deputation since 2013 and serving as joint secretary (MGNREGA), Ministry of Rural Development. She was supposed to return to Odisha in October after her five-year tenure on central deputation ended in August. However, she had applied for VRS in September this year. Sarangi’s application for VRS was approved by PM Modi on November 16. Sarangi’s application under Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) had been accepted by the Odisha Government on November 14 after being submitted on September 15.
