Bhubaneswar: Department of Energy along with Power utilities in the State are on a mission to restore damaged energy infrastructure and power supply network in cyclone-hit Southern districts: Ganjam, Gajpati, Kandhamal and Rayagada.
With the learning from last Calamities like Phailin and Hudhud, department had made strategic planning well before the landing of the Severe Cyclone -Titli. Required materials along with skilled workforce were mobilized to the vulnerable districts in advance. At Head Quarter a 24X7 control room was set up for monitoring and guiding the restoration team. Within a day, four major transmission lines 132 kV Akhisingh-Mohana, Digapahani-Mohana and 220 kV Atri -Narendrapur, Therubali-Narendrapur were restored which are the connecting life lines of power supply to the affected districts. Govt. had issued direction to the restoration teams to priorities restoration of Power supply to essential services like Hospitals, Railway Feeders and Water Supply Points. Power supply to MKCG Hospital, Berhampur was restored within 24 hours, and on the second day Power supply to Gajapati DHQ Hosptial and PHD water Supply was restored.
As per given information total around 2825 KM distribution lines (33 kV-135 Kms/11kV-840 Kms/LT-1850 Kms) have been restored, erecting around 10500 poles and replacement of 1270 Distribution Transformers which has benefited 8.8 lakhs consumers of four districts in getting back power supply. Further, around 60 Kms of complete new LT lines were laid in most affected 5 GPs of Rayagada district within a short span of time. Purushottampur and Aska towns marooned because of post cyclonic flood, electricity supply was restored soon after the recede of flood water.
In order to review and monitor the restoration work Sri Susant Singh, Minister Energy and Sri Hemant Sharma, Secretary Energy had camped in the affected districts. Besides departmental Technicians and Engineers, around 2000 workmen were engaged in the affected districts. Additional teams and workforce have been mobilized to Gajpati for expeditious restoration considering the severity of damage. Except Gajpati, electricity supply restored in other three affected districts. In Gajpati district 50 restoration teams are still working day and night for completion of the work.
Amidst heavy rain, the Staff/Officers along with restoration teams worked day and night on war footing basis to bring back normalcy in Electricity supply. Quantum of work, carried out during this restoration process, would have taken 6 months’ time in normal course.
