Report by Debadatta Panda, Kalahandi: Government of Odisha Notified the Kalahandi Autonomous college as Kalahandi University. After the struggle of 39 years demanding for University in Kalahandi it became fruitful and the educationists became glade to know it. Government of Odisha in Higher Education department declared Kalahandi University upgrading this college by notification no. 5789/06.03.2019 as single college University. As this was affiliated with Sambalpur University and the Sambalpur University is over loaded with 240 colleges with its jurisdiction the Higher education department deaffiliated the colleges within the kalahandi and Nuapada revenue district and tagged with newly declared kalahandi University by its notification no. 22523/26.10.2019 and as a result the dream of a full fledged University in Kalahandi is in its way of surety. It is notify that the Kalahandi University will be started by the coming academic year starting from june 2020. After this notification the students of this region will get proper education facility for their bright future.
This College was established in the year 1960 by the initiation of the than Member of Parliament Kalahandi Maharaja Pratap Kishore Deo along with some other educationists and the same was established privately as Kalahandi Science College. Subsequently it was taken over by the Government of Odisha and declared as Kalahandi Government College. Since 1980 it had been demanding for an University by Kalahandi Sikshya Vikash Parishad and since then regular demands were going on. In the 2002 it was declared as kalahandi Autonomous college. In the year 2009 the high level task force committee was formed and it was suggested to established as South-Western University at Kalahandi Aotunomous College. Govt of Odisha then declared Kalahandi University and now suggested to affiliate all the college under the territorial jurisdiction of kalahandi and Nuapada revenue district. After this the students of this region will get proper education facility and the intellectuals highly appreciate it.
