Report by Nishapati Nayak; Sunabeda: The Aeronautical society of India Sunabeda Branch in association with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited Koraput has organized a One Day International Seminar on the theme “Advancement in Aero engines- An Indian Perspective”, at Bhanja Mandap, Sunabeda on 1st December 2018. Aero engines are the most complex component of an Aircraft, the technical skill and expertise on manufacturing and overhaul of Aero Engines is least available in the public domain.
The seminar was organized with an objective of uplifting the knowledge about the various kinds of Aero engines being designed developed and manufactured by OEMs like GE USA, Rolls Royce- UK, UMPO-Russia from across the Globe, along with the indigenous efforts being put by various agency in India. Distinguished Scientist and Director DMRL, Dr. Vikas Kumar and Outstanding Scientist Sri Gantayata Gouda, ADP (Propulsion)-CEMILAC were the key note speakers for the day. Dr. Vikas Kumar focused on the research on the materials being used in aero engines whereas Sri Gouda enriched the knowledge of the participants with the trend of aero
engines in India and the future perspectives. The seminar was graced by senior executives from Indian Air Force, Indian Navy, BSF also.
Senior executives from GE USA, Rolls Royce UK, GTRE, UMPO Russia IITS, as well as HAL presented technical papers which were appreciated a lot by the participants. The technical sessions during the course of the day were conducted by Sri Asutosh Mallick, General Manager-Engine Division Koraput, Sri Sanjay Chawla (ADGAQA) and Dr. Benudhar Sahu (RD-RCMA) and the technical sessions was summed and concluded up by Sri J M Sahu, General Manager Sukhoi Engine Division, Koraput.
The international Seminar was conducted successfully by the Secretary Aeronautical Society of India, Sunabeda Branch, Dr. Bimal Kumar and team under guidance of Shri. Debashish Deb, Chairman Aeronautical Society of India, Sunabeda and Executive Director, HAL Koraput. The seminar was identified as the real need of hour for the technocrats across India to get familiarized about the recent advancements on Aero Engines taking place across the Globe.
