Dhenkanal: Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), Dhenkanal has organised a 4-day-Photography workshop here in the campus. National Award winning photo journalist from Jaipur, Taveena Anjum Quraisy and Himanshu Vyas trained around 70 students of the institute on basics of photography and photo journalism. The workshop began on 9th October and Continued till 12th October.
During the session, Himanshu Vyas explained the basic procedure behind handling cameras and techniques to be followed while shooting landscapes, events and wildlife photography. He began by speaking about the history of photography dating back to 5th century and mentioned how George Eastman started the Kodak Company in 1880 which revolutionised photography with the advent of flexible roll film that did not require constant changing as compared to the instant image cameras of 1960s to the SLR and smart cameras of present era.
After the introduction session, Anjum and Vyas taught the students how they can click photographs with proper composition, frame and lighting. They also gave many tips on photo editing. Along with photography skills, the professionals also highlighted the legal and ethical aspects of photography.
After the training, the students, along with the trainers went on photo walks and captured hundreds of beautiful pictures of the Dhenkanal’s famous Laxmi Puja festival. The workshop used to start from 5.30 in the morning and continued till 8.30 in the evening every day.
On the last day of the workshop, the institute organised a photo exhibition to showcase the photos, clicked by the students. Regional Director of IIMC Dhenkanal, Dr. Mrinal Chatterjee inaugurated the event. Speaking on the occasion, he said that photography is not just a part of journalism now a day, but it is also a life-skill. Every journalism student should to learn the basics of photography in order to survive in the era of multi-media journalism.
