BJP protests Parvati Sasmal assault incident, Odisha administration clarifies episode a result of two village’s dispute

Report by Kahnu Nanda; Jagatsinghpur: Protesting the alleged Parvati Sasmal assault incident occurred in Konjakothi village district BJP unit demonstrated and held protest meeting in front of Erasama police station on Tuesday. The saffron party leaders blamed state ruling BJD government and its local leaders those assaulted Parvati Sasmal on 16 April in village soon after she returned village after petitioning prime minister Narendra Modi during his visit to Bhubaneswar.

 

The victim woman in spite of lodging a complaint at Erasama police station cops have turned deaf year over the allegation, and being harassed by local BJD supporters, rued BJP district president Satyabrata Mohapatra.
Report said that hundreds of BJP supporters converged at Erasama headquarters on Tuesday noon and took out a rally towards police station and held demonstration seeking justice to victim woman Parvati Sasmal and giving her protection. Later the agitators submitted a memorandum and the stir was called off.
Meanwhile the victim woman has complained union home minister Rajnath Singh and the ministry has asked a report from the state home department and Jagatsinghpur district administration two days ago. Responding the probe district collector and superintendent of police convened a press conference at collector office here on Monday and clarified that the Parvati Sasmal assault incident has occurred due to dispute between two village groups and following row over a cashew plantation land claiming possession, and assured the media people that justice would not denied to victim woman collector Yamini Sarangi informed.
Reiterating the incident SP Jaya Narayan Pankaj informed scribes that a piece of government land measuring above 4 and half acre in Dhobai forest area had planted cashew nuts since after super cyclone 1999 and an NGO Janakalyana Parishad had funded the project. After the plants grown up first harvesting had started in the year 2006-07 and row erupted between Kunjakothi and Japa villagers claiming rights of possession.
Acting on the dispute local Erasama Tahasildar on 28 March 2007 had convened a meeting among both villagers and the matter had settled amicably and no quarrel surfaced till 2015 over title of the cashew land.
On 15 February 2016 Dasamatha villagers had complained Revenue department that the Kunjakothi villagers have illegally started constructing concrete house in cashew forest land , Tahasildar called a meeting sorting out the rows but yielded no results as Kunjakothi villagers maintained adamant demanded sole claim of the cashew land and the dispute put on hold till date.
Expressing strong displeasure over the construction and cashew harvesting both Kunjakothi and Japa villagers on 16 April 2017 confronted at Dhobai forest area and fought a pitch of battle as consequence few villagers’ sustained injuries including the victim woman Parvati Sasmal as she hails from Kunjakothi village.
Meanwhile police have registered two cases following complaints of both village groups and about 71 persons including victim woman have booked under Crpc 107 and cops have started investigation after proclaiming Crpc 144 in disputed cashew land since 27 April 2017.
While SP Mr Pankaj informed that elaborate police arrangements have made in disputed villages and Erasama Tahasildar has called a peace meeting taking both the village groups on 8 May 2017 soon after the first peace committee meeting held on 24 April 2017 failed due to Kunjakothi villagers skipped the meeting , SP added.
