Adani Foundation distribute saplings to villagers

Dhamra: In an effort to support alternate livelihood and fill-up the nutrition gap, Adani Foundation distributed fruit bearing and nutritional plants to nearby villages under Sustainable livelihood programme. Another concern like loss of natural habitat for millions of local flora and fauna, leading to climate change .The said fruit bearing saplings were distributed to the villages by Representative of Zilla Parisad Member, Chandbali Zone, Head CSR- Dhamra Port along with departmental staffs in a public programme held at Jali Paiksahi of Jagula Panchayat & Narasingha Prasad of Dosinga Panchayat. A total of 211 family members were chosen as beneficiary under this initiative to whom sapling distributed in the event. The fruit bearing saplings which were distributed were of Coconut, Mango, Jack Fruit, Drumstick, Chiku, Appleber, lemon etc.

These species were chosen in consultation with Horticulture Dept. based on the local climate and terrain condition. The villagers applauded the untiring and noble effort in addressing hardships faced by the local populace, as also the social issues looking forward to generate income from these plants for a better future, they took an oath to protect and grow them, according to the release.

In this context four earlier meetings held in respective villages including PS members, Opinion leaders, farmers, SHG groups in this month, detailed interaction and awareness programmes were conducted wherein methods of plantation and precautions to be taken were also explained. In connection to this project another afforestation programme in future also planned out to be executed in association with community members to develop Fruit Bearing Jungle to generate income which will be utilized for developmental activities of community as a motto of this programme.
