5th edition of the “Kaakar” literature festival will be held on February 1 and 2

Report by Basanta Rath, Nabarangpur: Under the Odisha Sahitya Akademi, the 5th edition of the “Kaakar” literature festival will be held on February 1 and 2 in the remote Kosagumuda block of the district and Chitrakot in Bastar district of Chhattisgarh.

In this regard, the first preparatory meeting for the festival was held at Kosagumuda under the chairmanship of Sahitya Akadami member Boolo Hota.

Among others, chairperson of Kosagumuda block, Geetamuni Samrath, vice-chairperson Padmasai Mali, Kaakar Committee vice president, Ashok Patnaik, secretary Ram Prasad Patro and Bijaya Kumar Patnaik were present who discussed about how to make the festival a grand success.

A committee was formed in which Collector Ajit Mishra will be the chairman, while Jogendra Swin, Kunja Bihari Dash, Dharam Sing, and Prabhakar Rao are the members. The dates and the venue for the event were finalised after holding discussions with the Collector and other members of the committee, said Akademy Member Hota.

For the first time, the Odisha Sahitya Akademi is organising the event in neighbouring Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, where more than 40,000 Odia people are residing. The festival will encourage analytical, cerebral and creative events, among the members of the literary fraternity. Our main motto to encourage the odia speaking people in Bastar district “to adopt the language of the mainstream literature, which can bring social transformation, and our efforts have to be made to restore Odia language in the region” Hota added.
