2nd Phase of Odisha Climate Change Action plan to be ready by March

Bhubaneswar : Odisha may finalize the 2nd phase of the Climate Change Action plan 2017-22 by March this year, which was earlier scheduled to be ready by January 2018. As per the draft action plan Odisha would require an investment of about 28,000 crore. However, after budgetary allocation by the state of about 20,000 crore, there will be a shortfall of Rs. 8000 crore. Meanwhile, Odisha has become the first state to get USD 34 million grant from the Green Climate fund. This was revealed during a workshop on Cilmate Investment in Odisha, organized by CTRAN Consulting, a leading Climate change advisory firm involved in the formation of the action plan. The workshop was organized on the occasion of the completion of 10 year of CTRAN.

Dr Ashok Singha, MD, CTRAN highlighted various aspects of climate change adaptation and mitigation, the impact of climate change on Odisha and how CTRAN has been working not only in Odisha but also in several states of India and countries of the world to address these emerging challenges. Dr Singha told that as per the draft State Action Plan on Climate Change for the period 2017-22, the climate investment requirement is about Rs 26592.04 crore for Odisha. Even providing for generous funds in the budget, the state may have additional funding requirement of Rs 8000-9000 crore. Therefore, all possible avenues for arranging climate investment is being explored.

Prof Runa Sarkar, chairperson of CTRAN highlighted the fact that a home grown consulting firm CTRAN in Odisha, in a short span of ten years have received national and international acclaim and contributed to important areas of climate change discourse. BASIX Group CEO, D Sattaiah and other directors were also present in the occasion. CA Prabhat Panda, director of CTRAN offered Vote of Thanks. CTRAN also organized two technical sessions and paper presentation in the theme of climate change and sustainability and senior officials from government and private sector deliberated on these issues.
