The 2nd Evening Of “Samarpan” Showcased Odia Bhajan and Poetry Recitation

Bhubaneswar : The 2nd evening of festival of Sufiana and devotional music “Samarpan” organised by Bhubaneswar Music Circle showcased different Odia Bhajan and poetry recitation by the renowned artists.
The programme was started on Odia Bhajans by Dr. Bijay Kumar Jena & Group. Dr. Bijay Kumar Jena is an Odissi Vocalist, Teacher, Writer and Researcher par excellence. They have presented a selection of traditional Bhajans from Odisha like “Mo Jibana Pachhe Narke Padithau Jagata Udahara Heu”, Niladri Bije Saila Bhabasagaru”, “E Marta Mandale Janama Hoele Abashya Hari Nama Japa re Baimana”, and much more. The singers accompanied him was Smt. Harapriya Swain, Smt. Gita Manjari Behera, Shri Sushant Panda and Smt. Sangitanjali Nanda are well known practitioners of Odissi Music. They were accompanied on Tabla by Shri Ajay Kumar Chaudhury, on Keyboard by Shri Balaram Bal, on Flute by Shri Srinivas Satpathy and on Percussion by Shri Tapas Kumar Sahu.

Evening concluding presentation was Poetry of Vidyapati by Dr. Ranjana Jha. Dr. Ranjana Jha is a Masters and PhD degree holder in Music from Patna University. She is a regular performer on stage all over North India. Amongst the numerous titles bestowed on her are the “Sangeet Kala Ratna”, Bihar Kala Samman and Mithila BibhutiSamman. Dr. Ranjana Jha presented Poetry from Vidyapati’s writings. Vidyapati, born in the 14th century, was known as the “Maithil Kavi Kokil” or the Cuckoo of Mithila. He has left behind a vast body of love poetry akin to sufiana writings. She was accompanied on Tabla – Shri Sanjay Kumar Thakur, Flute – Shri Jabahar Mishra and Sitar – Shri Swapneswar Chakraborty.

The dignitaries who graced the occasion were Dhirendra Kumar Ray, S. K. Tamotia, Aurobinda Behera, Shri Khirod Patnaik and Dr. Sangeeta Gosain. The programme was compared by Smt. Meera Panda and Dr. Isha Mishra.
