Bhubaneswar: First South Asian Youth Summit 2017 is ready to kick off with the global theme of “Creating a Sustainable Future: Empowering Youth with Sustainable Opportunities” from 17th – 20th September 2017 in Mayfair Convention Bhubaneswar City, Republic of India organized by International Youth Committee (IYC). A total of about 450 young leaders are participating from 61 countries including 8 SAARC’s Member States (India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Nepal, Pakistan, Afghanistan & Maldives) and 9 Observer States (European Union, Mauritius, China, Japan, Australia, USA, Myanmar, South Korea & Iran).
Dr. Shri Biren Sikder, Hon’ble State Minister of Youth & Sports, Government of Bangladesh, Mr. Naif Shaugat, Hon’ble Deputy Minister of Youth affairs & Sports, Government of Maldives, Dr Kamal Sadat, Hon’ble Acting Minister of Information & Culture and Deputy Minister of Youth Affairs, Government of Afghanistan, Dr Abdul Raziq ‘Salar’, Hon’ble Acting Minister of Social Affairs, Government of Afghanistan and Mr. Rajendra Kumar KC,
Hon’ble Minister of Youth Affairs, Government of Nepal have kindly consented to attend the Summit. For Bhutan, as there is no separate Youth Ministry, Mr. Gholing Tsheing,Director General of Department of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of Bhutan will be heading the delegation. And also various high level officials of youth ministry of various countries will also attend the summit to discuss various youth issues and concerns of the youth of the region. We will have various sideline meetings amongst the Hon’ble Ministers and their counterparts during the Summit.
It is also first time that all youth minister of SAARC Countries are attending in a common platform to decide the future of the youth.
The summit is organized to bring together young people in the region in order to address issues that impact youth in this part of the world and also to strengthen and tightening the
existing relationships amongst the South-Asian nations.
It will also formulate a policy by identifying common issues and problems of the regions to empower the youth and to facilitate
effective partnerships with youth, youth-led organizations and youth movements to further strengthen inclusive youth participation in the decision-making processes and implementation of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and also to contribute to the establishment of a permanent youth engagement mechanism that ensures consistent follow- up with young people and further boosts their participation and partnership in the implementation of the SDGs at national, regional and global levels. It will produce a joint outcome between the states and the youths called “Bhubaneswar Youth Declaration 2017”.
