15th Foundation Day Lecture of the Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar held today

Bhubaneswar: The 15th Foundation Day Lecture of the Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar was held on October 31, 2017 marking the thirty year successful collaboration between the Government of Odisha and the Jesuit Society. On this day, every year renowned personalities are invited to share their thoughts and opinions and inspire the next generation of students. In the past, business connoisseurs like Ms. Vinita Bali, Madhur Bajaj, Lalite Gupte, Ashok Soota, Dr.Preetha Reddy, Dr.B.Muthuraman and Mr D Shivakumar have delivered lectures on the Foundation Day. This year XIMB welcomed Dr. Naushad Forbes, Co-Chairman of Forbes Marshall, a corporation that helps customers save energy, improve product quality, increase process efficiency through their deep process knowledge and run a clean and safe factory. The event was presided over by Mr. Rajive Kaul, Chairman, XIMB-XUB and Fr. Paul Fernandes, S.J., Director XIMB and Vice Chancellor XUB.

Dr. Naushad Forbes is an alumnus of Stanford University where he was also a Lecturer and Consulting Professor from 1987 to 2004 and developed courses on Technology in Newly Industrializing Countries. He is the Chairman of Centre for Technology, Innovation and Economic Research in Pune. Being an active member of CII, he has chaired the National Committees on Higher Education, Innovation, Technology and International Business a number of times. He was also President of CII for 2016-17.

The event was graced with the presence of noted academicians, government officials , eminent business personalities , government board members, faculty , staff , students and alumni of XIMB-XUB. The students learned a lot from Dr. Forbes as he motivated them to excel by sharing his experiences and discussed a few important lessons through examples. He spoke on the Future of Indian Industry and the role of managers in the future of Indian industry. “Oppose anyone who asks you to conform to a narrower definition of being an Indian. I am a Parsi who struggles to speak Hindi, who eats beef, and a proud Indian. Diversity is India’s strength”, he said. He also added that, as future managers, one needs to make Indian Industry ethical, international, technology focussed, and collaborative as good corporate citizens.

After the talk, a question and answer session was held where the audience had the opportunity to interact with him. Fr. Paul Fernandes S.J. , concluded the evening with a vote of thanks reflecting upon the institute’s 30-year-old legacy.
