Cuttack: Jagadguru Kripalu Yoga and Naturopathy Hospital and Research Centre (JKYNHRC), Cuttack, conducted a special workshop on “Naturopathy as a Way of Life”, for the visiting students and faculty members of the Department of Yoga and Naturopathy of North Orissa University (NOU).
Ms. Shailee Adhikari, administrative officer of JKYNHRC explained the details about offers, services, and courses at the hospital. Dr. Asmita Dewangan, the Resident Medical Officer (RMO) introduced the guests and highlighted the purpose of the workshop.
Prof Kamala Kanta Dash, a Senior Fellow at Kalinga Kusum Foundation, who also teaches research methodology for students of Yoga at North Orissa University, was invited as the Chief Guest. Prof Dash spoke about the need to integrate yoga and naturopathy as part of the holistic healing practices and all students of medical science should study it. He appreciated the noble initiative of the founders of JK Yoga and Naturopathy Hospital which attracts hundreds of patients from Odisha and other eastern Indian states. He spoke of the need to promote and propagate the message of naturopathy through effective collaboration between academia, think tanks, media and civil societies.
Prof Jitendra Parida, the Coordinator of Yoga and Naturopathy of NOU, was the guest of honor for the event. He shared how students learned the practical aspects of naturopathy by visiting this hospital. He argued that the theoretical and conceptual understanding of yoga and naturopathy must be embedded into the practice.
Dr. Milind Parashar, the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of JKYNHRC was the coordinator of this workshop. He made a brilliant presentation on the history, practice and current application of naturopathy in daily life. Dr. Parashar who is working in the local communities in the nearby villages shared his observation and analysis on the type of diseases that are increasing due to the food choices of people of Odisha. Advocating for a no-salt and no-sugar diet, Dr. Parashar invited students to stay on campus and get the benefit of the naturopathy treatments and massages to adopt naturopathy as a way of life.
For a healthy lunch, the hospital canteen prepared a naturopathy prescribed diet for the participants with an objective to provide them a new experience and Sattvic taste. The objective was also to create awareness of such a possibility of cooking naturopathy prescribed diet within one’s home as well.
In the post-Lunch session Dr. Asmita Dewangan, the RMO, made an elaborate presentation on the naturopathic treatment of diabetes. She explained the reasons, types, symptoms and effective yogic and naturopathic remedies. Terming diabetes as a metabolic disorder, she explained how food choices are at the center of psychosomatic diseases. Everyone received a certificate of participation.
Dr. Milind offered the vote of thanks and expected students to take the message and experience of naturopathy to their respective homes, workplaces, and universities and be shareholders in building a healthy and eco-friendly society. He reiterated the vision of the revered founder HH Swami Mukundananda in making the hospital as the best place for yogic and naturopathic learning; thereby contributing to the sustainable development goals (SDGs) of the United Nations.
