Wood Apple’s Organizes Cultural Program

Bhubaneswar: Wood Apple, a school for the special children or Divyang, organized a cultural program at the IDCOL Auditorium in Bhubaneswar on 25th March to felicitate the winners of the Harmony Bell competition which the school organized in its premises at IRC Village, Bhubaneswar on the 9th and 10th March, 2017. The competition was based on various categories like Arts, Dance, Instruments and vocal talent. The organization through the cultural program wanted to encourage the special children hence they felicitated them in the presence of eminent personalities like Srikant Gautam, Film Director, Nivedita Nayak, Ex Chairman, State Social Welfare Board and Reena Routray, Social Activist, Environment who were the Guest of Honor for the evening. The felicitation ceremony was followed by the cultural program where the special children showcased their special abilities.
Wood Apple has been funded by Shree Sai Niketan Trust, which has been constantly working for the welfare of children, women and economically weaker sections of the society since it was established in 2012. The objective of Wood Apple is to reach out to the special needs of visually impaired, hearing impaired, mentally challenged autism, cerebral palsy and multiple disabilities children. To ease the teaching methods and pay the required attention to each child, Wood Apple had developed specially designed instructions and has made modifications in the education program. The school is also working to reach the deprived slum children. Wood Apple also aims to impart special classes for school going children and create livelihood through vocational training courses.
Founder of Wood Apple, Shanta Baliarsingh said, “We are determined in our efforts and want to extend a helping hand to the needy children and become a friend to them in their lonely world”.
Co Founder of Wood Apple, Rita Baliarsingh in her speech said, “We have tried to provide a genuine environment in the school where every child is free to express his/her thoughts completely without getting neglected”.
Film Director, Srikant Dash while addressing the media said, “Wood Apple is doing a noble job and I congratulate them for their sincerity and dedication they have shown for the special children of our society. I wish them all the very best in their Endeavour.”
Wood Apple has been gifted with a dedicated team where each member is focused in his/her work and giving their best in helping the special ones. The new training methods have proved to be beneficial as it becomes easier for the children to comprehend. Various activities and games are organized in the school campus for the children to give them a healthy atmosphere which will be good for their overall development. Recently Wood Apple organized ‘Mute Day’ on January 15th, 2017 for the speech impediment children and realize their quite pain. The school also organized several workshops on child abuse and child protection.
