Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda organizes a week-long celebration of International Women’s Day 2019

Jharsuguda: To mark the 44th International Women’s Day, Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda organized a series of events and activities on this year’s theme ‘Balance For Better’ aimed at celebrating the power of women and driving the culture of inclusivity and empowerment at workplace. Kick started on 1st march by Vedanta Women’s Council, a plethora of activities were organized at operational premises like blood donation drive, felicitation of successful women Change Agents of Odisha, Art of Living session, leadership summit, etc. aimed at inspiring and motivating the women employees.
Speaking on the context, Mr. Abhijit Pati, CEO – Vedanta Ltd., Jharsuguda, said, “At Vedanta, women professionals are at the forefront of various critical functions. We firmly believe that professional excellence does not bear the tag of gender. Women today are passionate about building a successful career, and we want to provide them that platform. Guided by the vision of our Chairman, Mr. Anil Agarwal, the Vedanta Group is particularly focused on recruiting women professionals who have the right knowledge and attitude and groom them into successful leaders who establish Vedanta as a force to reckon with in the global playing field.”
The International Women’s Week celebration started on a high note with a blood donation drive organized with the support of the company’s Health team, inside the plant premises during which 195 units of blood were collected. Following that, the Vedanta Women’s Council felicitated 6 successful women change agents of Odisha who have made a mark on the social fabric of the state with their undeterred efforts and will. The exemplary women who graced the occasion and interacted with women employees included Ms. Payal Patel, the Pad Girl of Odisha, Ms. Rita Agarwal, who drives Sambalpur’s cleaning activities and effective waste management, Ms. Mariana Kujur, the U-20 Indian Hockey Player who has represented the country at various International tournaments, Ms. Samita Barik, former Heavyweight lifting & Power Lifting champion, Ms. Rambhbati Kisan, self-made agri-entrepreneur, and Ms. Basanti Kisan, a successful multipreneur and Subhalaxmi Cooperative member. A motivational session on ‘Happiness is a Choice’ by Ms. Rajlakshmi Jayraman who hails from CETC, Bangalore and an Art of Living session undertaken by Ms. Vijaylaxmi Mohanty was also conducted by the council.
On March 8th, Mr. Ajay Kapur, CEO – Vedanta Limited – Aluminum & Power addressed a gathering of more than 350 women employees and inspired them to work passionately towards a successful professional career. Beyond these, a number of other exciting, fun-filled activities were also organized under the theme of this year’s International Women’s Day ‘Balance For Better’.
