Report by Odisha Diary bureau, Varanasi: Varanaseya Utkal Samaj (VUS) celebrated 82nd UTKAL DIBAS at Pt. Omkarnath Thakur Auditorium, BHU on 1st April, 2017. Prof. B. M. Shukla, Former Vice Chancellor, Gorakhpur University inaugurated the programme as Chief Guest. He spoke about the greatness Odisha and Odia people. Dr. K.P. Upadhayay, Senior Consultant, BHU was the Guest of Honour.
Prof. Tribhuban Mohan Mohapatra, President, VUS was the chairman of the function. Dr. Amiya Kumar Samal, General Secretary, VUS described the present and future activities of VUS. The programme started with Malyarpan to Lord Jagannath and Pt. Madan Mohan Malviya and with the BHU Kulgeet and state anthem ‘Bande Utkala Janani’ prepared under the direction of Dr. Kalyan Ghadei. Tanmya Ranjan Patra and Saswati Anupama Sahoo conducted the cultural programme. Prof. Annapurna Shukla for Women empowerment and social service, Shri Amiya Ranjan Panda for Trade and Business, Shri S. K. Agrawal for Education were felicitated during this programme. Dr. Kalyan Ghadei extended the vote of thanks.
Beautiful rangoli with the theme Lord Jagannath was prepared by Madhusmita Samal and Biswabara Sahu. Anugul, Odisha based Srirama Institute of Shadow Thatre under the direction of Dr. Gourang Charan Dash deputed by Department of Culture, Govt. of Odisha performed Shadow Puppet Play. Prof. Gopabandhu Mishra, Prof. B. K. Panda, Prof. D. Dash. Dr. Asit Sahoo, Dr. Swarna Khuntia, Prof. A. C. Kara and around three hundred members of the society were present in this programme. The programme also attracted other non Odia and Odia loving peoples of Varanasi.
