Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday urged Chief Minister to reinstate 4,541 Shiksha Sahayaks (SSs) who were dismissed from job in the year 2003-04.
In March 2003, the Government had issued an advertisement for engagement of 9,541 SSs. Subsequently, a merit list was prepared and 5,000 SSs were engaged. Further, in September 2003, the School and Mass Education Department wrote to district Collectors to engage another 10,682 SSs out of the pending applications instead of going for fresh advertisement. This included 4,541 unfilled posts and 6,141 fresh vacancies. The second phase of engagement of SSs was challenged before the High Court in April 2004.
The HC set aside the appointment of all 15,682 SSs and asked for the issuance of fresh advertisement allowing candidates to take another chance to appear in the examination. Later, only freshly appointed 10,682 had to appear in the recruitment process 2004-05 in which 5,292 SSs did not come as successful. They were disengaged from the services by respective Collectors. It is pertinent to note that 4,541 SSs employed against the March 2003 advertisement were technically valid but due to misunderstanding of S&ME Department, they were disengaged from the job. Further, the Government has not allowed the seniority list based on their appointment as per 2003 advertisement.
Pradhan wrote appraised this to the CM quoting a petition he received from of 2003-04 Batch Shikshya Sahayak Association general secretary P Dineshwar Rao recently.
“I request you for a favourable consideration of the above request for the overall well being of the Shikshya Sahayaks,” wrote Pradhan.
