Bhubaneswar: Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan Twitted, “BJD workers’ goondaism in name of hartal is sad. Everyone has got right to protest but nobody is above the law. The local Government should take stringent action against the guilty. Taking law into their hands is undemocratic,” Pradhan said.
The BJP on Monday said the hartal against petrol price hike is another example of the ruling BJD’s monopolistic and ‘Hitlery’ rule in the State.
“It is a first that a ruling party held a hartal in its own State. Baffled by the BJP national president Amit Shah’s assertion that the BJP would get 120 Assembly seats and the State Government’s failures revealed by the CAG, the BJD tried to hinder the BJP Krushak Morcha’s programme to hand over a memorandum to the Governor. Ministers, MLAs and other BJD leaders blocked the roads in the name of peaceful hartal,” BJP MLA Pradeep Purohit told a Press meet here.
He demanded that police arrest Ministers Surjya Narayan Patro and Snehangini Chhuria and MLAs Debi Prasad Mishra, Arun Sahu, Sanjay Dasburma and Pranab Prakash Das for violating laws.
BJP vice-president Sameer Mohanty wanted to know why the State Government is not imposing GST on the petrol and other fuels if it has concerns for poor people. “The State Government is earning around Rs 4,284 crore as tax from petrol and diesel. It should bring the fuels into GST regime in the interest of people,” said Mohanty.
Mohanty said farmers, who were coming to attend a pre-scheduled dharna at the Raj Bhavan here, were stopped forcibly by BJD workers midway at different places.
“The way BJD workers stopped women, ambulances and people moving to Puri to conduct Shradha for forefathers has brought to fore the real hooligan face of the ruling party,” he said.
Among others, State Secretary Kalandi Samal and spokesperson Sajjan Sharma were present.
