Bhubaneswar: A four-day youth leadership workshop for young change makers working in the area of improving sanitation in the state startedhere today.Ten young men and womenfrom across the state from the north in Mayurbhanj to the south in Koraput districtswho, through their efforts have demonstrated their commitment towards the issue and leadership skills, were selected to participate.
Conducted by UNICEF and Bakul Foundation, the youth leadership training is a part of the Mu Volunteer initiative in which young change makers are being identified and coached to become more effective leaders by which they can amplify their impact in their own communities. The trainings will help these young champions deepen their self-awareness, understand factors contributing to change, habits formation and how they can bring about behaviour change more effectively.
Addressing the participants, Ms Yumi Bae, Chief, UNICEF Odisha said,“Leadership comes from within and is driven by one’s own passion, initiative and vision, and not necessarily from persons with high designations. Through thiseffort to build sanitation leaders in the state,we hope to tap into the potential of active, committed young citizens who will lead social change.”
Sujit Mahapatra, Secretary, Bakul Foundation said, “This is not just a workshop but the start of a leadership journey. At the end of the workshop, participants will share their own action plans for leading change in their communities.Bakul Foundation will mentor the young champions till the end of the year, to help them lead the change they want to see.”
