Hyderabad: CII Telangana, in partnership with Government of Telangana organized the conference on Manufacturing excellence Man’exe 2017 here today.
The objective of the 13th edition of Man’exe 2017 is to promote the State of Telangana as a quality manufacturing destination that enables globally competitive manufacturing by showcasing existing marquee investments, infrastructure and proposed developmental initiatives for strengthening the existing manufacturing sectors of the state.
Mr Jayesh Ranjan, IAS Principal Secretary, Department of Industries and commerce, Government of Telangana, in his inaugural address, opined that the immense changes happening in technologies indeed benefited lot of local players, especially the Small and Medium Enterprises. This has been a result of the presence of world class institutions in Hyderabad such as BHEL, ECIL among others. “This created a pan Indian culture in Hyderabad and also a whole range of ancillaries to support the large PSUs. I am happy to mention that the small and medium companies could raise to the occasion and even become exporters” he said.
The Principal Secretary also mentioned that institutional development is of prime importance to Government of Telangana and is happy to come up with Telangana Academy of Skills and Knowledge (TASK), which takes care of skill development in the state. “Government will take care of skilling requirements of industry at Government cost”, he said.
Mr Ranjan opined that Smart Manufacturing is critical for industrial development in Telangana. “How do we ensure that the entire industry adopts smart manufacturing? I would urge CII to support a Centre of Excellence on Smart Manufacturing in Hyderabad”, he said.
In order to support manufacturing sector, Government will soon come up with few sectoral policies like Food Processing Policy and Electric Vehicle Policy, besides others.
Mr Jayesh Ranjan also released the CII-YES bank report on “Make in Telangana: Creating a Sustainable & Globally Competitive Ecosystem”. The report focused on various policy initiatives introduced by the Govt of Telangana to establish the brand of “Make in Telangana’. It also talks about some of the key institutional developments in the State and how they could support the State’s manufacturing sector.
Mr Ramesh Datla, Chairman, CII National Council on Water and CMD, Elico Ltd., in his special address, elaborated the role of CII in building competitiveness of the industries. “The CII Quality movement did create a good impact in enhancing quality in manufacturing. CII also came up with various centers of excellences, like Green Business Centre, Logistics Institute, SME Institute of competitiveness, FACE, Sustainable Development Centre, besides others”, he said. Mr Datla also mentioned that in the current scenario of demise in globalization, rising protectionism, slow growth, it is important to look beyond GDP growth, target new borderless market, and shift from production based business model.
Mr Vijay Kalra, Executive Director & CEO, Mahindra Vehicle Manufacturers Ltd & Chief Manufacturing Operations – Automotive Sector – Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., in his special address, talked about five areas that would help the manufacturing sector of the state to grow – Ease of Doing Business; Infrastructure enablers; investment in technology and R&D; Skills; and MSMEs.
Further elaborating on Skills, Mr Kalra mentioned that it is a big gap to the global standards and if something like Skill Olympics can be organized in Telangana, it can create the required impetus.
Mr R Ravichander, Regional Director, YES Bank, in his context setting address, opined that Telangana has tremendous potentials in advanced manufacturing. “The institutional initiatives like T-Hub, TASk, RICH is highly commendable”, he said.
Mr NLN Raju, Convenor, CII Telangana Manufacturing Panel & Vice President – Technology Platform, Signode Asiapac & MEA, in his theme address, opined that it is important to deliberate on the technologies that will be needed while developing new industrial parks in Telangana.
Earlier, Mr V Rajanna, Chairman, CII Telangana & Vice President & Regional Head, Global Head, Technology Business Unit, Tata Consultancy Services, in his welcome address opined that Hyderabad has emerged as Technology hub, which can support growth of high end manufacturing to a very great extent. “Telangana due to its impressive industrial policy TSiPASS & Chasing Cell, it is now No.1 in EoDB which creates appropriate platform to flourish manufacturing sector in the state”,
D Raju, Managing Director, Kirby Systems Ltd, in his concluding remarks mentioned that cost and access to water, uninterrupted power, ease of land acquisition, availability of skilled manpower and effectiveness of innovation ecosystem continue to remain areas of concern for the growth of manufacturing sector and Telangana has done well to address these important aspects.
The conference was attended by around 300 participants representing companies from the manufacturing sector. The conference celebrated on – future ready technologies, Financing models and skill development.
