Berhampur: The third edition of ‘Baarta – The Agricultural Meet’ organized at Berhampur University Auditorium by Tata Steel, in association its CSR department, TSRDS concluded today on a promising note. More than 500 farmers of the region, from Rangailunda, Chhatrapur, Hinjilikatu and Digapahandi blocks had attended in the event comprising of several interactive sessions with highly reputed agricultural experts.
The meet was inaugurated on March 22, 2017 by Mr. Subash Chandra Behera, President, Zilla Parishad, Ganjam, Mr. Bhagban Dash, Deputy Director Horticulture, Mr. Nagraju, Deputy Director, Agriculture, Mr. Dilip Kumar Patnaik, GM OMFED, Mr. Susant Kumar Mishra, Vice President, Tata Steel SE$Z and Dr. Ambika Prasad Nanda, Head CSR Odisha, Tata Steel.
The interactive sessions during the meet aimed at imparting to farmers latest crop and technical know-how, to help them increase agriculture productivity. Agriculture and allied scientists from reputed institutes shared best practices and insights on various agricultural aspects such as quality seeds, productivity, better use of inputs, economical food processing units, pulses production, etc. with farmers in three groups.
On the occasion, reaffirming Tata Steel’s commitment towards improving lives and livelihoods of people around its operations, Mr Sushanta Kumar Mishra called upon farmers to save and conserve water as well as indulge in rain water harvesting as water is a very precious resource and people often overlook its importance in their lives.
Mr. Subash Chandra Behera said, “Natural way of farming is better and more effective. We must also try and not waste food as it is very valuable”.
An exhibition was also organized showcasing stalls on agricultural and livelihood products of different SHGs. All the visitors and dignitaries appreciated the exhibition and the initiative undertaken by Tata Steel. On the occasion of the concluding ceremony, Mr Bijaya Amrit Kulange (IAS), Project Director, DRDA, Ganjam said that farmers must take advantage of various government initiatives and programs.
Mr. Rocky Martin, Unit head TSRDS Gopalpur, Mr R K Singh, Head, R&R and Administration, Project Gopalpur, along with other officials of Tata Steel and Tata Steel Rural Development Society were present on the occasion.
