Bhubaneshwar: A health awareness camp was organized by Tata Steel Rural Development Society Gomardih, at Tunmura Mission Primary School, under Girja Toli on 12th July 2018. The aim of the camp was to spread awareness among children about water borne diseases during rainy season. Over 80 children and school teachers participated in the program.
Dr. S K De, Senior registrar, Tata GDQ Hospital counseled the children on general principles of health and hygiene and the ways to prevent most prevalent rainy day diseases like malaria, dengue, typhoid, cholera , dysentery etc.
During his interactive session with children, he focused on the preventive measures such as removal of water logging, use of toilets, use of mosquito nets, etc. against the disease. Also, he spoke of about the first-aid treatment, such as use of ORS solution in case of vomiting and dysentery etc. He also advised the children to strictly follow the principles of personal hygiene and avoid consumption of stale and uncovered food. • Wash hand frequently always before meals• Always use umbrella during rainy season • Wash school dress in a week • Cover the exposed skin by wearing long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and hats in order to prevent mosquito bites.• Use an appropriate insect repellent as directed, to exposed skin or on clothing. • Avoid exposure of open wounds and rashes to flood water• Always wear slippers or shoes when walking along flood or stagnant water• Cover clean, open wounds with a water-proof bandage to reduce chances of infection.Mrs. Sushma Tirkey, Head Mistress, Tunmura Mission Primary School at Girja Toli appreciating the effort of TSRDS said, “The efforts taken by TSRDS towards spreading awareness about rainy day diseases among school children is really commendable.” Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Sanjay Sardar, Unit Head TSRDS, GDQ said, “It is high time children should be aware of proper measures to prevent and fight diseases like Malaria, Dengue, Typhoid etc. TSRDS will continue its efforts to spread awareness among school students about such diseases.” The programme ended with the votes of thanks given by Mrs. Sushma Tirkey.The programme was successfully coordinated under the leadership Mr. Sanjay Sardar, Unit Head TSRDS, GDQ and their team members Mr Gopal Ghosh, Mr. Subrate Chakraborty & Mr. Anuranjan Toppo.
