Bhubaneswar: Internationally renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik from Odisha won jury prize gold medal at 10th Moscow Sand art Championship, which started from 22nd April to 28th April at Kolomenskoye, Moscow in Russia. The prixe was awarded to Pattnaik in a ceremony by Pavel Menikov, the chief organizer of the event.Twenty five Sculptors from different countries around the World participated in this championship. Pattnaik was representing India. The theme of the competition was the “World around us”.
Sudarsan later called on the Indian Ambassador in Russia Shri Pankaj Saran, who congratulated him on his winning the medal.
Pattnaik created a 10-ft high sand sculpture of Lord Ganesh with the message of “Go Green”. “This year the slogan of Russian Government is “Go Green”, so I chose this as theme of my sculpture.
We, on earth, are at the door step of an imminent ecological disaster- the Global Warming. Failing to take appropriate measures will ensure our peril soon. It is time to think and act sincerely to meet the ecological challenge. Blessings of Lord Ganesh ensures the success of any endeavour taken for the well-being of the surrounding and the world as a whole.” – said Pattnaik after winning the medal.
Last year Pattnaik won gold medal at Moscow for his sand sculpture of Mahatma Gandhi on “World peace”. Recently, he created world’s tallestsand castle at Puri beach which was placed in Guinness Book of World Records.
Pattnaik has participated in more than 50 International Sand Sculpture Championships across the world and won many awards for the country. He also got the 4th highest civilian award “Padma Shri” in 2014 by the Governmentof India. Pattnaik runs a sand art school at Puri Beach in Odisha.
