Subhalaxmi Cooperative, A Flagship Csr Project By Vedanta Jharsuguda, Conducts Its 8th Annual General Meeting

Jharsuguda : On 23rd August, the Subhalaxmi Women’s Cooperative, the flagship CSR programme promoted by Vedanta Ltd. Jharsuguda, organized its 8th Annual General Meeting at Vedanta Meadows, Jharsuguda. Padmashree Dr Shrinibas Udgata, renowned Odia novelist and writer, and Mrs Namrata Chadha, accomplished lawyer & social activist, graced the occasion as the guests of honour along with eminent members of the Vedanta family – Mr Srinivas Narkedamalli, AVP Carbon, Mr Chandra Sekhar Sahoo, Head Security, and Mr Sundar Raj, Head CSR, and Mrs Pushpanjali Seth, President Subhalaxmi Cooperative. More than 200 women representatives from 276 Self Help Groups covering 64 villages in 3 blocks of Jharsuguda took part in the AGM 2017 to formalise agenda for the current year.
The event was formally inaugurated by Shri Udgata who lit the lamp, following which Mrs Seth welcomed the august gathering, expressed her heartfelt gratitude to Vedanta Ltd. Jharsuguda for their continuous support, and spoke of her vision for the cooperative. This was followed by the release of the annual report of and a description of the yearly activity highlights of the cooperative by the CEO, Mr Satya Narayan Dash.
During his interaction with the women Padmashree Udgata appreciated the motivation and entrepreneurial spirit of the women of Subhalaxmi Cooperative. He encouraged them to never lose that motivation and let it drive their actions, for that will help them realize their dreams. According to him, accomplished women will not only impact their own lives but also positively influence those around them, contributing to the overall betterment of society. Mrs Chadha talked about social infrastructure, expanding the operational ambit of these enterprises to include businesses that give more returns, and scaling up the coop. into a Small Finance Bank. She urged the members to envision a future where Subhalaxmi coop. would be in a position to collaborate with the govt. on projects for women livelihood & micro-entrepreneurship, and not just be limited to Jharsuguda. Meanwhile, members should take up every opportunity to learn more and establish themselves in the society as model personality. Mr Sundar Raj explained how Subhalaxmi is a role-model in empowering women through livelihood.He requested for greater cooperation & collaboration and promised to work on taking the coop. to greater heights.
This cooperative was a flagship CSR programme promoted by Vedanta under the sustainable livelihood project “Vedanta Integrated Jana Jivika Yojana” in 2008. It is worth mentioning that, currently Subhalaxmi Cooperative is having a presence in 64 villages with more than 3400 women members in Jharsuguda district running with an integrated livelihood-finance approach extending business development services and market linkage facilities to its members for their Socio-economic empowerment.Based on their performance of the past year, Pragati SHG was awarded as the ‘Best SGH Group of the Year’ and 5 entrepreneurs – Jiteshwari Chachan, Prabhashini Meher, Saraswati Maher, Jahnabi Meher and Subha Kishan – were awarded as the ‘Best Entrepreneurs of the Year’ at this Annual General Meeting.
