Report by Odisha Diary bureau, Jharsuguda: Sesa Sterlite Ltd., Jharsuguda (Formerly Vedanta Aluminium Ltd.) observed the National Fire Service Week 2014 with the theme ‘Fire Prevention is the best insurance’. On 14th April, Fire Service Day is being observed in National level every year and the company also observed its Fire service week starting from that day, by spearheading awareness through quiz, essay and training sessions on fire related safety practices in its Plant premises which was closed on 19th April 2014. Present during the occasion were Mr. Maheshwar Swain, Range Fire Officer, Sambalpur, Mr D. K Singh, Head HSE & Sustainability, Dr. Rajeev Nayan, Mr. Dayanidhi Behera ,Mr. Venkat Reddy, Mr S K Agarwal and Mr. A. K. Goyal as guests on dais amongst a sheer number employees from Sesa Sterlite and its partner agencies. The function was kicked off with unfurling of the Fire Service flag by the chief guest. After paying homage to the gallant firemen, fire-safety pledge was administrated. A fire-safety manual was also released by the Chief Guests during the event. Speaking on the occasion Mr. Swain appreciated Sesa Sterlite for establishing excellent fire service infrastructure and team at the location which is one of the Best in its class as compared to other industries. He emphasised the need to have a mutual aid between all Industries and State Fire Stations to be alert and ready for any kind of eventuality in the area. He congratulated fire service team for a fantastic demonstration. Mr D K Singh-Head HSE and Sustainability apprised on the last year Annual performance and achievements of Fire Department and also highlighted about the community awareness drive on LPG hazards in nearby villages etc. made by Fire Service Team. Fire demonstration and their methods of extinguishment by the fire fighters left the audience mesmerized during the event. At the end prizes were distributed to the winners of Quiz and Essay Competition and Extinguisher operation competition. Ten employees were provided Annual Fire Service Award for their contribution to the fire service department. The Fire service week was led by Mr. Santosh Srivastava, Head Fire Services, Sesa Sterlite and more than 500 employees and Partner Company agencies were witnessed concluding event.
