SC directed Election Commission of India to take action on allegation of poll irregularities against Odisha CM

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday refused to hear the case of poll irregularities against Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and said the Election Commission of India (ECI) would take a final call on the case. To a plea of transfer of the case, the SC also left the option on the ECI. It is the ECI to decide whether the case would be transferred to the Delhi High Court or not, the apex court ruled.

The ECI replied in positive to the SC when asked if it would to take action based on the complaint and after that the SC disposed off the case stating that EC would decide further, according to SC lawyer Narendra Hooda.

It may be noted that RTI activist Subash Mohapatra had filed a petition in the Orissa High Court in July alleging discrepancies in statement of accounts and expenses submitted by CM Naveen after the 2014 general elections.
