Renovations works in Kalinga Stadium on full swing ahead of Men’s Hockey World Cup

Bhubaneswar: The construction, expansion and renovations works in the Kalinga Stadium are on full swing ahead of the Men’s Hockey World Cup to be held from November 28 to December 16 in the city.

Chief Secretary Aditya Prasad Padhi reviewd the progress of various infrastructure works in the 4th Executive Committee Meeting of the event held here on Saturday.

The review showed that the reconstruction of the swimming complex inside the stadium has been completed and it will be given the finishing touch soon. The construction of new galleries and expansion of existing galleries for enhancing sitting capacity in the stadium have been fastened. Chief Secretary Padhi directed to complete the work by May 31. Target was set to complete laying of two new turfs in the stadium by end of June. Water filtration plant for both the pitches would be completed by end of May.

Further, it was decided to construct a foot over bridge near Kalinga stadium for uninterrupted traffic flow and convenience of pedestrians.

The Tourism Director appraised that so far an inventory of 412 hotels in Bhubaneswar, Cuttack and Puri has been prepared for accommodation of players and visitors. Around 78 rooms of PSUs, technical colleges, corporation guesthouses have also been identified. Around 8,600 beds have been made available to Hockey India League for online booking. Other 103 hotels have also been identified and surveyed.
