Rain & flood fury in Odisha, IMD predicted very heavy rainfall in next 48 hours, government cancels holiday

Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department, Bhubaneswar centre forecasts very heavy rainfall in Odisha in the next 48 hours. This was informed by the Bhubaneswar Met Centre Director H.R. Biswas.

CM Naveen Patnaik reviewed flood-like situation in #Odisha at high-level meeting at Secretariat today.

“Yesterday’s well mark low pressure has transformed into depression. It’s close to Balasore. By today evening, it will cross. Under this effect over Odisha, heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours,” said Bhubaneswar Met Centre Director H.R. Biswas.

“Next 24 hours at a few places heavy to very heavy with extremely heavy to heavy in one or two places. After 24 hours, it will decrease in intensity over coastal Odisha, but in interior and western parts there will be heavy to very heavy rainfall,” he added. The Met Director also said, “After 48 hours, situation will improve and heavy rainfall will not be there.”

In order to tackle the possible flood situations, the Odisha government has ordered to open all government offices across the state on Sunday. Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Bishnupada Sethi on Saturday issued an order in this regard. The SRC also directed all district Emergency Operation Centres to function round the clock.

Health Minister Pratap Jena says special teams of doctors to be deployed at flood-affected areas, state and district-level health camps will be organized; adequate stock of ORS, Halogen tablets & anti-venoms present at all places .
