Rain dampens Independence Day celebration in Jagatsinghpur

Report by Kahnu Nanda; Jagatsinghpur: The 72th Independence Day celebration was dampened due to rains occurred on Wednesday morning, later the district level customary celebration held in Nabakrushna Choudhury stadium here sans cultural events, prize distributions and other events scheduled for the celebration earlier. Collector cum District Magistrate Yamini Sarangi hosted the National flag and took salute of ceremonial parade hosted by police force.

Earlier state government had cautioned non participation of college and school students in ceremonial parade anticipating heavy rains on Independence Day. While braving incessant rains many students were gathered and later witnessed sitting in the stadium gallery observing the celebration. District collector in her maiden speech refreshed the history of freedom movement in country and post-independence scenario of India besides Collector discussed the contributions of Jagatsinghpur freedom fighters in freedom struggle. District superintendent of police Prakash R , Zilla Parishad president, additional district magistrate, municipality chairman, sub collector and senior officilas were present. Later collector launched the Biju Swastha Kalyana yojana help desk in headquarters hospital here.
