Jagatsinghpur District was created on 01.04.93.The new district was inaugurated by the then Chief Minister Mr.Biju Pattnaik on 01.04.93 in an auspicious ceremony .Initially the District Collectorate was functioning in the Sub- Collector's Building. The foundation stone to the District Collectorate was laid on 29.11.95 by the then Dy.Chief Minister Mr.B.K . Biswal & within two years, the construction to new building got completed and it was inaugurated on 01.11.97 by the then Dy.Chief Minister.It is located at the heart of the town & very close to the Bus-Stop.A centrally located Statue of Dr.Ambedkar stands infront of the portico which adds beauty to its glory & majesty.
The District Under the Administrative Control of central Division ,District Magistrate and Collector is Head of the District Administration .He is assisted by three Additional District Magistrate for managing day to day administration in Revenue ,Development,and maintaining law and order.
Jagatsingpur is situated at a distance of 60 kms. from Cuttack. Jagtsingpur district has made Orissa's literature and culture brigh There exists Paradeep Port and fertilizer factory in this district.alika, Biluakhai, Kusumi, Kuanria and Lunijhara rivers belong to this district.
It is also famous for the Sarala Temple and is well-known as the cultural heart of Orissa. The district (smallest in size among the 30 districts in Orissa) has produced some of the most famous names in Oriya and Indian literature: Sarala Das, Birakishore, Gopal Chhotaray, and Bibhuti Pattnaik, for example.
Jagatsinghpur was the worst hit district in the super cyclone in October 1999 in which thousands of people died.
The District is also famous for having the most no of successful theater groups which has helped in keeping the old tradition of live acting before crowd.The theater groups have become the part of mainstream entertainment for people all over Orissa. The Paradeep, port city in this district has now become a hot business destination due to the largest FDI in India as POSCO is setting up a plant along with his own port for transportation. Indian Oil has been trying to set up an oil refinery also.
